We often hear people say that they are going to switch churches because they aren’t getting fed where they are currently attending. I’m not sure that is exactly the truth. Are they really saying that they know more about the scriptures than the pastor? Maybe that’s what they mean but I think more times than not, what they are saying is that they don’t like what they are hearing.
Maybe they are looking for some type of feeling that they aren’t experiencing. If that is the case, they need to stop running around looking for some experience or feeling because what they are looking for isn’t out “there” somewhere, it is inside and comes from the Holy Spirit.
Here’s the real secret. This elusive feeling doesn’t come from what you are being fed. It comes from feeding others.
It comes from getting involved and helping others. It comes from spreading the “Good News” and sharing your testimony. It comes when you invite others to come to church. It comes from building relationships with others in the church. It comes when you stop looking for what the church can do for you and start looking for ways that you can serve the church. The same goes for our relationship with God. Instead of always seeking what God can do for you we need to seek out what we can do for HIM.
The world changes when we stop focusing on our needs and start focusing on the needs of others. We change too.
To get what you are looking for, you need to start giving what you are looking for.
Stop looking at what is on your plate and start looking at what you are putting on the plate of others.
